Supernova (Light Years Series, book 2)

By Kass Morgan

Blurb:
The 100 meets Ender's Game in the captivating and romantic sequel to Light Years from New York Times bestselling author Kass Morgan!

With a galaxy on the brink of war and loyalties divided, the friendship of four Quatra Fleet cadets will be tested as their greatest enemy closes in.

Arrested for espionage, Orelia's future is looking bleak . . . until the Quatrans make her a surprising offer that could save her life -- and the lives of everyone in the galaxy. Reeling from a betrayal, Arran finds comfort in a sympathetic boy from Loos, someone who understands how hard it can be to fit in. But is it enough for Arran to forget his heartbreak? Meanwhile, Cormak's position at the Academy is in jeopardy when someone discovers his own treasonous secret, putting everything he's fought for in peril. And Vesper is on the brink of becoming the superstar officer she always dreamed she'd be . . . until she uncovers a conspiracy that shakes her faith in the Quatra Fleet to its core.

As secret machinations come to light, these cadets will be forced to overcome their differences and band together to restore peace to their worlds.

Kass Morgan, the bestselling author of The 100, once again delivers pulse-pounding action and glittering romance in this sequel to Light Years.

Review:
This is book 2 in the series and I was really excited to actually get this book and after reading it, I am slightly upset that it got pushed back 8 months. With it being put back I actually expected the quality of the story to be much better.

So this book literally started straight after the first book which is really good. Basically in the last book the enemy attacked their ship but Orleia knew how to defeat it because she is a spy for them. She gets imprisoned at the start of this book and she is being questioned and treated really badly.

The others Vesper, Arran and Cormack discover some new intelligence while she is being questioned after another mission has gone wrong. After further investigation they discover who the new enemy actually is and they learn who to actually trust with this information. They are quite secret about it all until the agreement comes in place. I won't say too much about the agreement as this is the main plot within the book.

In this book there is a lot of character development as Vesper, Cormack, and Arran underago a whole new world of stress and their love lives get affected. The relationships between each of them all change for the best and by the end of the book it is quite hard to not actually like them all because they all have their perks.

The adventure within this book is actually very minimal, the main focus is on the main plot and there is no other second plots or anything, it's disappointing in a way but then at the same time it is nice because least you can focus just on the one story-line instead of multiple.

The only reason I'm really marking this down as 4 star is because with it being delayed, I expected it to be so much better. It is still a really good book, but with all the action and development weighed up to me it is still a 4 star book, this purely down to it being delayed and me finding it slow.

Light Years (Light Years Series, book 1)

By Kass Morgan

Blurb:
Reeling from the latest attack by a mysterious enemy, the Quatra Fleet Academy is finally admitting students from every planet in the solar system after centuries of exclusivity.

Hotshot pilot Vesper, an ambitious Tridian citizen, dreams of becoming a captain - but when she loses her spot to a brilliant, wisecracking boy from the wrong side of the asteroid belt, it makes her question everything she thought she knew. Growing up on the toxic planet Deva, Cormak will take any chance he can get to escape his dead-end life and join the Academy - even if he has to steal someone's identity to do it. Arran was always considered an outsider on icy Chetire, always dreaming of something more than a life working in the mines. Now an incoming cadet, Arran is looking for a place to belong - he just never thought that place would be in the arms of a Tridian boy. And Orelia is hiding a dark secret - she's infiltrated the Academy to complete a mission, one that threatens the security of everyone there. But if anyone finds out who she really is, it'll be her life on the line.

These cadets will have to put their differences aside and become a team to defend their world from a cunning enemy - but the danger might be lurking closer to home than they think...

Review:
This book is written in four point of views, the four main characters are from different planets, they each have different climates and environments which allows them to excel in different areas throughout their training.

These 4 students; Vesper, Cormack, Arran and Orelia are all in training after the latest attack by a mysterious enemy. They each have different backgrounds and reasons why they want to be apart of the quatra fleet academy, to fight this enemy or what they think is the enemy.

This is not the first book I have read of Kass Morgan's, but I have to say that I do love this series a lot more than the 100, even though I loved the 100 series too.

I find this book to go into a great amount of detail for each of the different characters which allowed me to get a better understanding and connection to each of them. I felt that their pasts impacted greatly on their actions and the way that they behaved within the team. The only character that I felt was lacking background information was Arran, it just felt like he was missing pieces and I didn't fully get connected to him. The story of his life while on the academy was quite interesting and I did really enjoy it but I would have loved to know more about his life.

Each of the characters had developed quite a lot throughout the book and it was quite a surprise when some of the characters did something that wasn't their usual self because others had changed the way that they felt and thought about other things.

The sci-fi within this book wasn't too drastic it was believable and the detail that it went into wasn't too much, there was no made up words, no complicated words used to describe things so it was definitely made simple. By doing all these things it was made to feel more real unlike some other authors who make up words and a a total new universe that doesn't seem realistic because some of the details are too far fetched.

There was a few twists within this book that made it more interesting and it was good to read about same sex relationships in a normal way rather than it being forced and the feelings being described differently to same sex relationships. So I really like Kass Morgan for this because she made it seem like it was normal to be different which it is because everyone is unique and has their own mind to make decisions that will effect their lives and others. I didn't really appreciate how Dash's father reacted but this is how some people react which they totally shouldn't, they should respect others and support them in their choices.

I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who likes sci-fi and romance, you would totally enjoy this book. There was plenty of close relationships and plenty of team work within this book.
