One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crown Series, book 2)

By Kendare Blake

Blurb:
The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?

With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.

In this enthralling sequel to Kendare Blake’s New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns, Fennbirn’s deadliest queens must face the one thing standing in their way of the crown: each other.

Review:
This isn't the first time that I am reading this book, it's actually my second. I read this book straight after the first one.

So the ending of book one is where Arisnoe tells Jules that she is no longer useless she is a poisoner.

The start of book 2 (One Dark Throne) is where Katharine has returned to the Arron's and all of the servants have returned back to help look after the poisoner queen Katharine. Katharine has started taking up archery and knife throwing as well as making poisoner presents for her sisters. Hopinh to catch them out and kill them before the end of Beltane.

Pietyr has not returned back to the Arron's as he is scared of Katharine and worried that the truth of what he has done will come out.

Mirabella is determined to kill her sister Arisnoe so she heads to Ashburn Woods to battle with her sister. Where upon there is difficulties and things change.

Katharine also declares that the sisters should all meet for the midsummer festival in Wolf Spring, after she found out that the suitors for Arisnoe had been killed by poison.

The main story throughout the book was very captivating and enticing, I loved every second of it. It was great discovering new things out about all of the queens and following their stories through different events.

Each of the characters throughout the book I felt had developed really well and I felt much closer to them all, I also understood why some of them did the things they did.

There was a few times within the book I wanted to kill Joseph because he still had his eye on Mirabella and he just didn't really seem to care about Jules anymore which made me feel really sorry for her.

The detail of all the scenes within the book were great I could still picture scenes and characters the whole way through. The only person I felt who had truly changed was Katharine, but there is a reason behind this and you discover more about it throughout the book.

It was also great for the relationship between the sisters to change as well as the relationships with some of their friends change. It was nice to see how loyal some of their friends were too in difficult situations.

The ending of this book is really good especially now one character is dead and 4 others escape. The story leading up to this part was great too, to discover new things about other main characters and for things to become all turmoil and then for some things to get sorted. I felt this was a perfect ending and I really can't wait to actually start reafing the third book and finding out what happens now.

I highly recommend this book but you will need to read the first one to understand a bit more about the things that happen in book 2. While reading through this book a few things start to click into place and make you question the Queen's powers.

This book is perfect for anyone that loves a twist within a story, cheaters, sisterly love, arguments and characters dying.

Favourite Characters: Mirabella
