I read this book as part of my NEWT exams and decided I am so pleased that I did. I got this book because it really intrigued me and it was in a past FairyLoot, I sadly didn't get this box back in 2017 but the book I have is the FairyLoot copy as I bought it second hand.
This book follows the main character Aurora through out the book she is called Rora and Roar, there are several reasons for this and they are mentioned within the book. I will call her Roar through out this review as that is the main name that is used in the book.
This book is about people having magic powers so that they can fight off the storms that are around their village and the country that they live in. It is a common thing to occur and nearly everyone has powers that develop at a certain age. Roar's brother sadly died when she was out trying to get the storms heart, this is a difficult task and only a very skilled person with the correct magic can get them, they are worth a lot of money on the black market too as we find out.
Since Roar's bother passed away she now has to take the throne as she is the princess of the kingdom but her powers have not developed or started to show any signs yet so she been kept away from all other people and had her maids swapped quite often so that no one realises that has no magic. But now that she is coming of age, she has to marry and it has been arranged by her mother. Roar meets this guy and falls in love with him but then her opinion changes on him and tears her heart to pieces. She then discovers something about him and follows him, when she discovers that there other ways to have magic within the person and that's when her adventure begins.
The actual story-line of this book is just amazing, it is quite slow to start of with but once you get into it then it quickens up.There is a lot of action, plot twists, and a bit of sweet complicated romance. You all know by now that I'm not a huge fan of romance but what is within this book is just so sweet and not drastic at all, it's that love where both parties reject it to a certain point and they believe that love is not what they are feeling. So it is actually quite entertaining and you can clearly tell that both characters love each other.
Throughout the story Roar tries to keep her identity secret until something happens then she has to tell the group she is travelling with the truth so she can protect her country from her betrothed.
The friendship within this book is also really sweet because it is true friendship, her friend from the castle helps her escape on her wedding day and does not give in telling the truth even though she is being beaten. There is also quite a lot of friendship within the group she is travelling with and you can tell that they are there for each other as they have to work together to fight storms, but they know the strengths and weaknesses of each other so they can be put in the safest option when they are fighting a storm.
I don't think there is actually anything in this book that I dislike or that would change, I just think it is honestly perfect and I love learning about all the different magic and storms that they have to experience. I also love to see how certain friendships and romances start to develop and show within the book. It is just generally amazing and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes adventures and books about magic.
The ending of this book was just perfect and hopefully it will follow on to book 2 quite nicely, I will be reading this by the end of the year, so check back on that review and see if I still think quite highly of the series.
