Crown's Shield (The Aermian Feuds Series, book 2)

By Frost Kay

Blurb:
Trickery. War. Betrayal.

Despite her resolve to cut ties with the rebellion, Sage Blackwell is forced to turn to her old allies...But when the ultimate betrayal puts her in an impossible position, she has to make a life changing decision:

FREEDOM OR PEACE?

From the moment he meets Sage, Crown Prince Tehl Ramses finds himself confronted with one surprise after another- and he hates being the fool. Ensnared in the rebellion's intricate web of trickery and blackmail, Tehl is forced to take desperate measures:

WAR OR COMPROMISE?

Both Tehl and Sage will do whatever's necessary to avoid the pending war, even if it means becoming reluctant allies. Tempers rise, myths are unveiled, and assassins abound. Can they put aside their prejudices to protect their people? Or will they tear Aermia and each other apart?

One story. Two sides. One goal: Save Aermia.

Review:
This is the second book in the series, Blade has escaped the Castle and is now just having flashbacks of her time there.

In this book there are several adventures that happen which is great as it makes this book fast paced. The detail of these adventures is good, we also get to meet a whole new range of characters that we get to know. They each have great personalities that make this book a whole new level.

So Sage becomes the liaison between the crown and the Rebellion to protect Aermenia and certain terms are put in place. Rafe is still trying to control what she does and admits a few things to her, one of these things are expected but the other is not and it puts a whole new spanner in the works.

Sage throughout this book seems like that she is still struggling with her nightmares but then when she is awake and during the day she changes her personality and becomes this strong women who demands all these things. This kind of annoys me at times sadly but the whole aspect of her actions is meant to be good and I can understand that.

Throughout the book, her actions towards Sam and Tehl vary and she seems to trust them a lot more which is a bit conflicting since she used to hate them. I'm just not sure how I feel about Sage anymore, being truthful.

But if I put Sage to one side and compare the book without her then it is a really good book because there are funny moments, adventure, plot twists and a lot of cheesy ones especially with Sam. The thing is that is Sam's personality all over.

I think what made me rate it 4 stars was just Sage's character sadly. I am looking forward to the rest of the series though and going from there, hopefully Sage doesn't get on my nerves anymore but if she does I will try and just ignore her from now.

Favourite Character: Sam
